Development of sites results in a large proportion of area being covered by impermeable surfaces such as roofs, car parks and roads. Surface water run-off therefore increases up to 80%. Regulators are promoting the use of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) that control run-off to that of a Greenfield site (around 20%).
